I can’t even count the number of songs that remind me of Memphis. In fact, most of American music does. My home is the home of the blues, the birthplace of rock n’ roll, and it has a long history of influential underground music of all genres. It’s the home of Stax, Sun Records, Royal Studios, Graceland, Ardent Studios, Beale Street, and a thriving rap and hip hop scene. Memphis even has its own “sound.”
Anway, no long story behind my pick for today. It’s Rufus Thomas’ “Walking the Dog,” a song I hear at least five times a night everytime I visit Beale Street.
And it never gets old.
