In Episode 2 of BLACK MIRROR REFLECTIONS, I am joined by Dr. Chris Gilliard to discuss the first Black Mirror holiday special, first aired in 2014, “White Christmas.” Again, I strongly recommend that you watch (or re-watch) the episode before listening to this podcase episode. Even though Chris and I spend waaayyyy more time talking about the implications of “White Christmas” than the actual episode itself, we still drop some major spoilers, so you don’t find out here what you don’t yet know!
I first “met” my special guest, Dr. Chris Gilliard, through Twitter and his (very excellent blog), Hypervisible Exchnages. Chris is a writer, professor and speaker. He is an advocate for critical and equity-focused approaches to tech in education, whose scholarship concentrates on digital privacy, surveillance, and the intersections of race, class, and technology. His ideas have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wired Magazine, The Chronicle of Higher Ed, and Vice Magazine. He is a Harvard Kennedy School Shorenstein Center Visiting Research Fellow, a member of the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry Scholars Council, and a member of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project community advisory board
